on the right of the image below going towards the hood, and the part on the left was in the upper radiator support. To his surprise, I pointed it out and corrected the issue. His hood prop did not have any coating remaining on the end of it, the car is not pristine. And you are correct, his hood prop did not store properly, but it did "work". At one point someone put the hood prop into the car backwards. 
No offence was intended Tim, your car is cherry. But on my car when I use the hood prop the curled end fits into a hole in the hood so that it will prevent the hood from opening to far if the hood prop is engaged. As you mentioned an issue, I just threw out what had come to mind. Best, Barry
